I’ve got three updates for you today. No huge endorphin epiphanies, but some good info on Life & Hope, tomorrow’s big training challenge and the unveiling of the Motivation Miles webpage. So, here we go!
Life & Hope Fund – I tend to maintain a healthy skepticism when it comes to charities and non-profits. There are too many stories out there about overpaid directors and out-of-control spending on fundraising efforts . . . you wonder if any of your money is going to the cause you thought you were supporting. When we decided to run the Leadville 100 Trail Run for a cause, Tami and I spent a lot of time looking at a myriad of options. The Life & Hope Fund stood out . . . it meets all of our criteria for feeling really good about where the donated $$ are going. Yesterday, we had the honor of meeting with the Life & Hope Fund board of directors and spent some time with Diane Jorgenson.
Are you Life-&-Hope-Fund curious? Take a look at the video we shot yesterday and make up your own mind as to whether they are up to good. I think you will agree that they certainly are!
$1965 donated so far to the Life & Hope Fund. THANK YOU!
New Personal Distance Record? I’ll be headed out the door tomorrow at 3:30 AM for a 50-mile training run. 37 is about as far as I have ever gone in the past, so this should be interesting. Especially considering it will be in the mid-80’s by mid-morning. Similar weather to Boston and we know how that turned out. The route will take me over the Page Avenue extension bridge, down the Katy Trail with a loop around the Hamburg trail and a strong, hoppy finish at the Augusta Brewery. Special thanks to Tami and Dan for crew and pacing help. I’ll have my phone and will tweet some updates along the journey.
Motivation Miles! No one runs the Leadville 100 on their own.
No man is an island, Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manor of thine own Or of thine friend’s were. Each man’s death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee.” – John Donne
The Motivation Miles webpage is a work in progress, but it does include some very special people who will be helping me along the way. My sincere thanks to all on the list and to all those yet to be named!
Training Update: This will be a 100-mile week if tomorrow’s run goes according to plan. 1298 ytd as of today.
